Do Clear Aligners Shift Your Teeth to Straighten Them?

Clear aligners are made from a clear plastic material that allows people to fix problems with their teeth without others noticing. Even though they are very effective in straightening the teeth, some people are skeptical about using them because they do not know how they work. The same job that used to require metallic brackets to be fastened to the teeth with wires can now often be done with a piece for removable plastic.

Do clear aligners shift the teeth to straighten them?

Traditional braces use brackets that are connected to wires to make the teeth gradually move into the desired position and eventually straighten the teeth. Clear aligners do the same thing, but there is no need for metal brackets and wires because they are designed to fit tightly over the teeth and gradually move them into position.

How do clear aligners work?

When a patient goes in for their consultation, their dentist will come up with a plan to move their teeth into the desired position by taking a 3D impression of their mouth. This will give the dentist a better idea of how long the treatment process will take.

After the patient and dentist have agreed on a treatment plan, the dentist will send the 3D impression to the laboratory to get a tray of clear aligners made. When the patient picks up the aligners, the dentist will tell them how long each aligner has to be worn before they are discarded, which is usually every two weeks.

Each aligner will slightly shift the teeth and should be worn for 22 hours a day. After two weeks, the aligner should be discarded and the patient has to use the next aligner in the tray to continue moving the teeth as planned. When the patient is done with the tray of aligners, the treatment will be complete and their teeth should have moved into the correct position.

How long does it take to straighten teeth with clear aligners?

The time it takes to fix dental problems with clear aligners varies depending on the severity of a patient's condition, but the average time ranges from nine to 18 months. In some cases, people start seeing results in a matter of weeks, and if they have worn braces in the past, treatment may take as little as 10 weeks.

Can anyone get clear aligners?

Due to the fact that clear aligners are designed to fit tightly on the teeth, dentists only use them to treat adults and teenagers. They can be used to fix crooked teeth, bite problems, crowded teeth and minor spacing problems, but they are not recommended for people with severe crowding or bite problems.

Taking care of clear aligners

Clear aligners are easy to take care of because they are removable. Patients can avoid damaging them by taking them off whenever they are about to eat and putting them back on when they are finished eating. Cleaning them is also easy because all the patient has to do is wash them out with soap and water every day.

Conclusion

Clear aligners are similar to traditional braces because they straighten your teeth by gradually moving them into the desired position. However, they are more comfortable and less visible, making them a great alternative for people who do not want to wear traditional braces. If you want to straighten your teeth or fix a minor bite problem, talk to your dentist about getting clear aligners.
